Leprino Foods Senior Project Engineer in Remus, Michigan
The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for executing the site’s annual capital plan, oversite of the plant operational controls system, and developing and maintaining a continuous improvement culture focused on a collaborative effort to drive high-level impact on financial performance.
Facilitate a collaborative working relationship with centralized LFC resources.
Administers the continuous improvement strategy across all plant departments.
Leads process improvement initiatives through the disciplined use of measurements, accountability, analysis, and discussion of process alternatives in order to arrive at best practices.
Responsible for management of employees and/or project performance. Regularly monitors key performance indicator of team and project deliverables.
Demonstrates Leprino Food Company’s core values and ensures adherence to company policies.
Organizes, leads, and facilitates cross-functional project teams. Adapts plans and priorities to meet service and/or operational challenges.

Supports all production and plant efficiency projects to include Master Cheesemaker, Plant Technical Training, etc.
Champions the development and execution of a 5-year capital strategy in conjunction with site leadership.
Coordinates assigned projects/priorities by ensuring the timely completion is within budget, ensures appropriate paybacks are forecasted and achieves expected outcomes.
Schedules all project work including design, equipment selection, construction, and equipment installation, in coordination with available downtime to minimize impact on production and to confirm compliance with governmental regulatory specifications (O.S.H.A., F.D.A., building codes, etc.).
Prepares and implements Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) by coordinating with production management, as well as other outside sources to obtain input and review.
Prepares specifications, drawings, and layouts.
Obtains quotes, develops costs analysis, budget and project schedule.
Directly supervises Plant project lead as well as contractors and coordinates activities with consulting services.
Process Analysis & Improvement
Identifies, develops and leads improvements to utility, process, or energy systems, to improve efficiency or reduce cost.
Leads improvements, modifications, and upgrades to processes and equipment, under the requirements of production needs.
Develops, implements, and sustains systems and process improvements that optimize all phases of production process.
Analyzes situations to determine if training, development, or additional teams are required to initiate corrective action.
Develops and tracks metrics that provide data for process measurement and identifies indications for future improvement opportunities.
Implements appropriate visual controls to ensure lasting results, including standard work, improvement opportunity walks and process audits.
Implements and supports business performance tracking metrics for continuous improvement by identifying key performance indicators, measuring progress and impact of change and reporting results to ensure transparency of financials, communication of realized benefits and enhanced employee engagement.
Supports the plan/build continuous improvement budget by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting resource needs/costs and properly accounting for expenses to meet requirements and achieve fiscal responsibility.
Provides event follow-up to monitor the progress of planned improvement implementation to assure timely action, appropriate management support, and achievement of expected tangible benefits.
Training & Develoopment
Gathers business requirements and identifies how/where process changes will fit. Defines options to meet needs. Supports the new definition adoption of processes.
Analyzes activities between processes to determine gaps and partners with internal teams to identify and roadmap best solution.
Directs and trains employees in the fundamentals of continuous improvement using appropriate process improvement tools and methodologies.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering or related field
8+ years of engineering, capital project management, or process improvement experience in a manufacturing environment
2+ years of progressive project leadership experience
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
Dairy/Cheese manufacturing experience
Knowledge and experience working within CI methodologies in the following areas: Kaizen, Standard Work, 5s Program, Process Mapping, Cause Mapping, and Project Management
Experience in balancing key initiatives with limited resources. Understands priorities and ability to break down complex project items for team to execute
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities/Competencies:
Familiarity of engineering principles, including physics, chemistry, structural and machine design.
Familiar with industrial operations, preferably dairy or food manufacturing
