Nexteer Automotive 2019 Manufacturing Engineering Summer Internship in Saginaw, Michigan

The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes, procedures, problems, resources, staff areas and people so that they become aware of the career opportunities at Nexteer Automotive. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support Engineers on processing and reviewing data

  • Work with hand tools, gages and equipment to complete testing and qualifications.

  • Create presentations to communicate results of project findings using Excel and PowerPoint

  • Lead kaizen activities to eliminate waste in cycle time, manning, workplace organization and overall manufacturing efficiency

  • Work on or with assembly, machining, plastics, automation and/or process equipment

  • Design tooling & fixtures to support the manufacturing process, prepare documentation to support, and communicate process

  • Coordinate with Engineers for timely completion of project tasks

  • Timely communication of project status and relevant issues

  • Conduct testing and trials with attention to detail and information integrity

  • Regular contact and communication with other work groups and suppliers outside of Manufacturing Engineering

  • Lead and own project initiatives and metrics/requirements

  • Coordinate with vendors and internal customers

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be attending a 4-year university

  • Must have a 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale

  • Must be studying Bachelor's in Engineering:

  • ​Mechanical or Electrical

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and documentation

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others

  • Technical knowledge of mechanical principles

  • High level of Analytical and Problem Solving skills

  • Timely and accurate project management

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and coordinate multiple activities

  • Demonstrated commitment to a disciplined approach on projects

  • Good oral & communication skills to work in a collaborative team environment

  • Knowledge / Expertise in the following: Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Candidate must be able to work in the US without current or future sponsorship
