The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Job Requisition Introductory Paragraph:
This position will allow the Student to focus on electric machines within the electromagnetics group in R&D department. Student will have the opportunity to work on definition of requirements, design, analysis, development and testing of electric motors. In this position, the student will work closely with other subject matter experts on the electromagnetic analysis via analytical methods and numerical tools based on finite element methods.
It will be required to report results to upper-level management with an effective liaison between state-of-the-art proposals for research and tangible ideas for product development that will allow the student to enhance their leadership skills in an industry-focused research environment.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Develops models of electric machines for analytical, numerical and system level analysis.
Develops and supports Matlab/Python-based scripts for simulation automation.
Develops new tools and methods to support modeling, analysis and optimization of electric machines.
Participates in the integration of multidisciplinary components for system simulation.
Provides technical insight for advanced technology development.
Ensures thorough literature searches on the addressed topics.
Proposes and implements engineering changes.
Communicates technical outcomes in oral presentations and written reports.
Candidate must be pursuing PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent program with emphasis on electrical machines.
Must have cumulative 3.6 GPA on 4.0 scale
Knowledge of Permanent Magnet Synchronous and Induction machines.
Knowledge of finite element method for low frequency electromagnetics.
Experience with programming/scripting languages such as Python and Matlab.
Experience with FEA software such as Altair Flux and JMAG.
Knowledge of CAD software and Simulink for system level simulation is a plus.
Understanding of manufacturing and design trade-offs are desirable.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical engineering solutions to difficult problems.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
