Nexteer Automotive Controller Engineer for Electrical Hardware (2018) in Saginaw, Michigan

Nexteer Automotive is looking for an energetic engineer who will interface with internal and external customers as the subject matter expert. This position has responsibility for the design, development and validation of the product life cycle. The candidate is assigned to the Powerpack Application team and will interface with external customers and suppliers as well as internal customers such as the product teams and purchasing. This position allows you to think outside of the box utilizing vehicle debug/design, model verification and requirements and development. We have a diverse library of electrical tools such as CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe, custom made software tools, oscilloscope and dSpace hardware-in-the loop (HIL) test stands. The perfect candidate has the ability to work on their own as well as present their ideas to the customer.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the primary electrical engineering interface to the customer

  • Support in Saginaw and Potential travel, to support customer locations may include: Warren, Milford, Dearborn, Auburn Hills, Europe and Asia.

  • Maintains a project timeline for applications

  • Supports all required program documentation including:

  • DFMEA’s

  • Safety Plan Development

  • Design Reviews

  • Customer issues/communications tracking

  • Customer Documentation

  • Drawing, Calibration, and Software Releases

  • Complete process related documentation including Engineering Notices, Design Change Package, Engineering Change Requests, Cost Requests, 5 Phases, Engineering Permits, etc.

  • Coordinate sample supply requirements for engineering samples to the customer and the labs.

  • Coordinate controller updates activities: Samples, vehicle testing, validation, anomaly fixes, plant return material analysis

  • Coordinate calibration release, software release, and validation activities

  • Interpret and analyze system and customer specifications to determine impact on the functional design content of the electrical system.

  • Support Product Development activities as required.

Requirements:

Required Skills:

  • Educational focus in design/development of electrical systems in hardware and/or software

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as being highly motivated with good time management skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).

  • Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Eager to learn and think outside of the box

Preferred:

  • +2 yrs of electrical experience

  • Program management experience

  • Familiarity with electronic assembly processes

  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay)

  • Familiarity with basic tools that apply to CAN networks

  • Familiarity with general electronic schematic diagrams

  • Familiarity with printed circuit board layout and fabrication

  • Functional understanding of C programming language

  • Experience with 8-bit and 16-bit micro-controllers

  • Experience with microcontroller processors and common peripherals
