Nexteer Automotive Product Engineer - Steering Columns (2018) in Saginaw, Michigan

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The engineer will responsible for the design and validation for Ford Steering Columns along with implementing cost improvement ideas for current Ford Steering Column programs.

  • Conduct product design projects per the CPI process.

  • Ensure components and system level quality by use of DFMEA

  • Collaborate with CAD designers to create robust designs and effective drawings.

  • Engineering Release products, components, and design changes with DSS.

  • Maintain a positive, effective working relationship with our customers.

  • Collaborate with ME, GSM, Operations, Steering Column Assembly Plants and PCL to implement designs that are robust and enable world class quality and cost performance.

  • Collaborate with Sales and Resident Engineers to translate customer driven changes to enhanced revenue and profit.

  • Coordinate and support component prototype design and build activities

  • Support manufacturing plants in problem solving and travel to the manufacturing plants when required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

DEGREE: BACHELOR

MAJOR: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING or EQUIVALENT

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers, suppliers, and other functional staffs.

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.

  • Knowledge of the principles of project management.

  • Excellent oral, written and presentations communication skills.

  • Understanding of technical & commercial aspects of product line

  • Strong problem solving capability with Design for Six Sigma, Shainin Red X, or Six Sigma Greenbelt certification preferred.

  • Willingness and ability to travel (Nexteer and customer Engineering homeroom is to be US-Michigan. Nexteer manufacturing footprints are to be Mexico and China

  • Hands on experience
