If you're looking for a fantastic way to grow and develop not only your technical engineering skills but also your project management competencies, this is a great opportunity. You'll work in a fun and innovative environment which is dedicated to a coaching mindset. The Co-op position will work closely with our new product development team located at the Porex Richmond, VA site. This site focuses on the development of porous solutions utilizing a variety of bonded fiber technologies. As the term progresses, the overall expectations for this Co-op will gradually increase.
So let's check out this journey:
To start, the you will provide support to new product development activities. Later, as you develop your scope responsibility will increase and you'll participate in project execution and task management. A total of 3 terms are expected for this Co-Op R&D learning experience. At the end, you will gain sufficient experiences in experimental design and execution; data collection and statistical analysis; results organization, summary and presentation; basic project management and new product development.
Provide basic support to new product development projects.
Collect, organize and summarize data of both process conditions and test results.
Conduct product performance tests and characterization.
Perform analytical tests including test procedure development.
Lab scale chemical batch mixing/preparation.
Sample preparation, shipping and tracking.
Clear, accurate documentation of trials and testing procedures.
Improve methods for data collection, testing and result analysis.
Participate in experimental design and execution.
Develop experimental procedures and characterization methods.
Participate in trial production and new product scale up operation.
Support new product / process transfer (R&D to Operations) efforts.
Work together with application engineers and commercial team to manage the front end of the new product development pipeline.
Develop and update matrix of new product development activities.
Take responsibilities of task management of large product development projects.
Work with cross-functional teams to support new product launch plan.
Support new product qualification planning and execution.
Support new process testing and validation activities.
Support preparation of new product qualification reports.
So what's needed to qualify for this great opportunity?
Rising sophomore or junior in chemical engineering or material science field.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Basic problem solving and logical thinking skills.
Data driven and statistical tools such as MiniTab preferred.
Capable of conducting experimental design and execution involving infrequent physical requirement such as lifting up to 50-lbs of weight.
Good at record keeping and documentation.
Trust, integrity, and be initiative.
Collaboration, teamwork and has proven experience in demonstrating behaviors aligned with our company's core values.
Computer skills including MS Office particularly the knowledge of Excel.
Minimum 2 terms (semesters).

Office, laboratory and climate controlled pilot production environment.
Close interactions with cross functional teams (tremendous opportunity to gain business acumen and insights from other functions)
Use of basic mechanical hand tools and device assembly equipment.
Physical Demands – standing and infrequent lifting (less than 35lbs).
