Nexteer Automotive Supplier Development Engineer- Saginaw (2018) in Saginaw, Michigan
The qualified candidate for this opportunity is recognized as an expert in auditing, varied manufacturing processes, and implementation of a robust manufacturing quality system. This individual will be coaching Nexteer’s future suppliers, providing them with the awareness, knowledge, experience, direction, and leadership at all working levels to ensure processes and quality systems will meet or exceed Nexteer’s expectations.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluate in region suppliers with Enterprise Commodity Mgr. (ECM)/Buyers after initial visits have taken place based on approved commodity strategy (Targeted suppliers)
Perform MCA/NSA (Manufacturing Capability Assessment / Nexteer Supplier Assessment) on targeted Suppliers for Development with cross functional team
Work with ECM/Buyer to select in region suppliers for strategic development and set timing expectations
Monitor supplier’s performance, identify improvement plans, Champion the Supplier Development process for Suppliers
Work with supplier to close all MCA/NSA open issues
Train supplier on Nexteer requirements and systems: All Intelex applications, MAPP, APQP, Nexteer Supplier Requirements, Culture of Quality, Problem Solving, etc…
Provide technical expertise and assistance to drive continuous improvement activities within the developing supplier to achieve a Best in Class Quality System.
Develop strong working relationships with key leaders with specific focus on supplier’s top management
Improve Supplier’s Culture of Quality by conducting workshops and/or training at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing quality systems, and other manufacturing technical support, as required.
Interface with the Global Supplier Quality Management, Commodity Strategy, and Product Line teams to ensure Suppliers are capable to meet Nexteer requirements (including development strategies & implementation plans)
Integrate AQE’s into the Product Development Process and support all systemic related problem cases during the 1st year of production
Support visits by Nexteer personnel to developing suppliers in region.
Special projects as required
Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Preferred) or 10+ years of relevant experience
Minimum 7 years manufacturing experience in Mfg. Eng., Product Eng., Quality, or Operations in the Automotive industry
Ability and willingness to travel to supplier and Nexteer locations, as required (25-75%)
Knowledge of industry supplier quality standards, policies and procedures (ISO 9001, IATF16949)
Experience in implementing the Nexteer Supplier Assessment and/or Quality Systems Basics (QSB) and/or BIQS Quality Systems.
Experience in APQP tools (Process Flow, FMEA, CP, PPAP, AIAG CQI etc.)
Experience in Statistical Analysis (MSA, SPC, Minitab)
Proficient in problem solving methods with strong team approach (5 Whys, 6 sigma, Fast X, Shainin etc.)
Proficient in GD&T, reading of prints & drawings, interpretation, and part measurement
Knowledge of diverse manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, facilities, and equipment.
Demonstrated knowledge of Lean Manufacturing
Excellent English communication skills in both oral and written and a desire to work with people and suppliers in region and across all regions

High level of interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and facilitate others in group situations and instruct others in new techniques in a Global Environment
Ability to interact effectively with both managerial and operational levels.
Ability to manage audit planning, preparation, scheduling resources, making audit contacts, training team members, developing work/communication plans, and making travel arrangements.
Ability to self-manage and set priorities with demonstrated follow-through skills and experience.
Preferable: Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA).
