Kelly Services Quality Engineer in Taylor, Michigan

Kelly Engineering is looking for a Plant Quality Engineer Consultant located in Taylor, MI

3-6 Month Project

Summary : Provides the technical expertise to support Plant Quality Assurance activities. Areas include problem resolution, customer interface, leading containment activities, and supporting production.

Responsibilities :

  • Function as primary contact for customer quality issues, complaints, or rejections.

  • Lead problem-solving activities with cross-functional team members to solve internal and external customer concerns and problems.

  • Facilitate coordination, communication and data reconciliation for all 3rd party containment; manage through closure including invoicing.

  • Report on quality system performance through process capability studies, Pareto analysis, I charts and other tracking tools.

  • Issue and track RMA samples with customer and update internal database.

  • Coordinate, track and submit all Annual Validations as required by customer.

  • Participate in PPSC (change management process) as Task Leader when assigned.

  • Document work instructions for production floor including but not limited to One Point Lessons, Quality Bulletins and Sort/Rework and Containment Instructions.

  • Participate in MRB process; provide “voice of the customer” in criteria establishment.

  • Support investigation of supplier quality issues and SNCN process when appropriate.

  • Support internal audit structure by completing internal and layered process audits as scheduled.

  • Travel to customer locations to facilitate relationship building, problem solving and/or management of on-site containment.

  • Participate in AQP process performing defined tasks.


  • 2 or 4 yr degree preferred in Quality Engineer related studies

  • 3+ years of experience in an Automotive Quality Engineering role and/or a combination of Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality Engineering.

  • Knowledge and experience with IATF 16949 preferred.

  • Working knowledge of SPC, GD&T, MSA, PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, AQP, PPAP, Problem Solving Techniques such as 8D, 5-Why, 7-Step, 5-Phase.

  • Previous experience with metal stampings, expanded metals, painted metal products, or plastic molded product as applicable in an automotive supplier environment is preferred.

  • Proficient in use of MS Office applications (Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)

  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner both written and verbally.

  • Must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without a reasonable accommodation.
