Job Introduction

The Contract Senior Vehicle Controls Engineer is responsible for the development, integration and testing of vehicle systems’ embedded controls

Major Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the development, integration and testing of vehicle systems’ embedded controls
  • Lead development of High-Level Function documents for vehicle systems, body systems, chassis systems Infotainment/HMI/UX and/or ADAS systems
  • Manage external engineering services suppliers, ensuring all requirements, objectives and timing milestones are kept on track
  • Regular reporting of program controls integration status, including identifying program issues and risks
  • Lead vehicle cross-function integration – ensuring functionality and compatibility across all vehicle systems
  • Lead controls integration issues management through resolution
  • Develop model-based functional software for vehicle systems
  • Develop and verify interfaces to powertrain and vehicle high-voltage systems
  • Writing and execution of test cases, including SIL, PIL, HIL/test-bench testing
  • Develop system-level calibrations, calibration maps, etc.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle-level controls integration issues including hardware, software, calibration and system wiring
  • Support vehicle development and demonstration activities at local and national locations as required
Knowledge and Education
  • 5+ years’ experience developing real-time controls algorithms for vehicle, powertrain and/or autonomous systems
Work Experience
  • BS / MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong interest/knowledge in multiple cross-functional vehicle systems, with the desire and motivation to create innovative solutions in a fast paced R&D; environment
  • In depth knowledge and experience of Model based design tools, preferably in MathWorks products; Matlab, Simulink
  • Experience of developing systems with functional safety processes
  • Experience of vehicle network simulation and analysis
  • Experience of rapid-prototype controllers and associated tool chain
  • Experience of real-time software generation tools, including vehicle network tool, diagnostic and data acquisition tools
  • Good project management and organizational skills; problem solving; strong motivational skills with the ability to work unsupervised
Work Environment
  • Some travel is expected, as required in the Metro Detroit area ( 25%), may require occasional international travel ( <5%)
