The GM Body Team offers opportunities across a spectrumof engineering experience. These product engineering positions involveresponsibility for all activities - including definition of requirements,execution of design, and validation and testing - during the developmentof Closures throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle. These roles require anexperienced engineer to lead and drive a cross functional product developmentteam. In addition, they require collaboration with peers in the creative design,purchasing, manufacturing, and quality functions.

The Closure teams are seeking individuals in thefollowing areas:

  • Subsystem lead – overall lead for side doors,lift gates, hoods, and deck lids
  • Door in white engineer – door sheet metal
  • Front & rear closures engineer – liftgateand decklid sheet metal

Responsibilities include:

  • Generating and executing technical solutions forside closures to support new vehicle programs
  • Providing technical leadership for advancedcomponent or technology development
  • Performing complex design analysis andevaluating engineering designs
  • Working cross-functionally to implement costreduction, methods and product improvements, and to support prototype andproduction build activities
  • Balancing business imperatives, including butnot limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing
  • Production design release of closures parts andsubsystems
  • Communicating information to and from internal andexternal customer organizations
  • Staying abreast of relevant new technology andcompetitive products
  • Ensure closure systems are meeting all safetyand compliance requirements both internal and external

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • A minimum of 2 years of engineering experience

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s Degree or other Advanced Degree
  • Familiarity with the engineering design ofclosures or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with Design For Six Sigma process
  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Modeand Effect Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Knowledge of plastic materials, processes, andtooling
  • Knowledge of metal forming
  • Knowledge of FMVSS requirements
  • Vehicle or new product launch processes
