Job Description

About the Side Closures Role:

As a Side Closures Engineer, you will be responsible to develop and integrate door system content including sheet metal, door hardware, glass/ body seals and upper door moldings into the vehicle. We are seeking to fill various roles within the Side Closures team for specific component integration that you will be responsible for including:

  • Door In White

  • Door Hardware Development and Integration

  • Outside Door Handles

  • Electric Motor Powered Components (Mechatronics)

  • Glass Sealing, Body Sealing and Door Upper Molding Systems

This position involves responsibility for development activities throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle including:

  • Definition of and performance to requirements

  • Execution of design including integration of the parts into the system

  • Component and Sub-system test and validation

  • Support of components and systems through vehicle launch and lifecycle

This role requires an experienced engineer to lead and drive a cross-functional product development team including collaboration with the following groups:

Within Engineering –

  • Body Structure Systems

  • Interior Door Trim

  • Vehicle Performance teams

  • Various groups within Electrical Systems team

  • Safety Engineering

Outside of Engineering –

  • Creative Design

  • Purchasing

  • Manufacturing

  • Quality

Additional Job Description

Education Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Required (Mechanical OR Electrical Majors highly desired)

Experienced Required:

  • 3 or more years of experience with developing and executing technical solutions in one of the following areas: mechanical components, electro-mechanical components, mechanisms design, rubber component design, sheet metal design or injection molded part design to support new vehicle programs

  • Balancing business imperatives, including but not limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing

  • Communicating information to and from internal and external customer organizations

  • Working knowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T)

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge in metal formability and manufacturing requirements

  • Injection molded plastic design knowledge

  • Familiarity with structured problem solving methods such as:

  • Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) process

  • Red-X

  • Kepner-Tregoe (KT)

  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)

  • Establish and create mechanical and electrical component interface requirements
