Powertrain Thermal Management Design and Systems Engineer

KBR is seeking a Powertrain Thermal Management Design and Systems Engineer. This role will support the Advanced Mobility Experimental Prototype Program in our Warren Michigan location.

The Combat Vehicle Powertrain Thermal Systems Engineer is responsible for assisting the government task lead with interpreting thermal management system performance requirements, and independently conducting design, analysis, procurement and manufacturing planning, and test and evaluation of subject thermal management systems.

The incumbent will be responsible for defining and documenting overall thermal architecture, identifying developmental and commercial components required for thermal systems design and fabrication, supporting and conducting CAD design for combat vehicle thermal systems and components, and overseeing analysis and validation of those components and system designs, and recommending and supporting test and evaluation of manufactured thermal management system performance.

Duties will include assisting a government task lead in the following tasks:

Develops thermal system architectural schematics, thermal diagrams, perform systems integration and validation of combat vehicle powertrain heat exchanger systems.

Specifies thermal components, materials, and methodologies to ensure products meet military environmental and customer requirements.

  • Evaluates supplier specifications, analysis, & validation data to

  • ensure selection of the proper suppliers.

  • Conducts thermal development analysis and supports CAE and CFD analyses.

  • Conducts developmental testing of thermal concepts to ensure they will perform as modelled.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science and/or Engineering in Mechanical/Thermal Engineering or equivalent degree. A minimum of 5 years related experience in Mechanical/Thermal Engineering or related field.

  • Must be a US citizen, applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. An active secret level security clearance is preferred

  • Proficient in the use of PTC CAD design products.

  • Understands automotive and MIL-Standard test and performance specifications.

  • Must be familiar with the product design processes, design reviews, vendor capabilities and commercial sources of supply for thermal management system hardware, fluid and power interconnect technology, and pump and fan performance specifications.

  • The candidate must have extensive knowledge of automotive systems and power generation systems for both combat and tactical vehicles.

  • The candidate must have experience in the design, development, and sustainment of thermal management design (heat exchangers, fans, pumps,) for internal combustion engines, electric motors/power generation, power electronics, and energy storage devices (batteries).

  • The candidate must have experience leading and managing subsystem design, development, validation and integration of thermal management systems into military vehicles.

  • The candidate must have experience in the testing of thermal management systems at the component, subsystem and system level, including the writing test plans, interfacing with test personnel, analyzing data and interpreting results.
