Join us to develop the motor controller for one of a vehicle’s most dynamic actuators, the Electric Power Steering system. As part of ZF’s EPS Core Mechatronics organization, you will use your creativity and experience to tailor our motor’s performance to customer requirements, improve its response, robustness and NVH, and drive down its cost. This is a challenging role in the organization requiring self-reliance, influencing skills, and global travel.
Represent ZF to the customer on motor control strategy, requirements and issue resolution.
Calibrate and verify motor controller performance.
Develop sensing and control algorithms to improve motor response, robustness and NVH.
Diagnose system performance deficiencies and trouble-shoot field issues through advanced signal processing techniques and structured problem-solving methodologies.
Analyze customer / system motor performance requirements and support the compilation of compliance matrices.
Maintain the motor control section of the system DFMEA for specific applications.
Maintain the software / calibration definition for specific applications based on the core motor control requirements.
Develop and validate mathematical models to simulate our in-house motors, sensors and power electronics.
Develop improvements to the core motor control requirements within the global team.
Support the development of state-of-the-art motor test and calibration equipment.
Communicate trouble-shooting progress, specification modifications and research findings through comprehensive documentation. You should be willing to travel abroad for up to four weeks a year to aid knowledge transfer.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree or better preferred.
An understanding of the V-cycle development process (and alternatives), requirements management and system/requirements modeling, and associated tools/languages (eg IBM DOORS, IBM Rhapsody, UML/SysML).
Knowledge of mechatronics (ECUs, motors, sensors, software), algorithms and control systems.
Experience testing mechatronic systems in a laboratory environment and data analysis using Matlab.
Experience and Skill Requirements
Experience of requirements management and system/requirements modeling.
Experience applying design standards (eg ISO26262) and tools (DFMEA, FTA etc) for safety critical systems.
Experience of data logging, dynamic modeling and statistical analysis and associated tools (eg CANape, Simulink, Minitab).
Knowledge of structured problem-solving techniques (eg Six-Sigma, Shainin Red X).
